My professional background is in International
Business and I am currently the Managing Director
of a consulting company based in Luxembourg.
I am an amateur photographer who has been
taking photographs for over 25 years. I specialize
in fine art flower photography. My photographic
styles vary from formal compositions to colorful
abstracts and intimate close-ups. I am drawn
to flower photography because of their limitless
range of colors, shapes and textures, which
are truly amazing and easily overlooked.
In essence, flower photography is about light
and focus. I used a technique called renaissance
lighting, which relies on natural diffused light
for compositions that capture intricate details
of color and form, reminiscent of a classical
renaissance art painting. In contrast, photographing
flowers in a natural setting provides a lively
tapestry of juxtaposed colors and patterns.
Using selective focus techniques allows me to
isolate a main focal point of a flower to draw
attention to intimate details, which would otherwise
go unnoticed.
Because of digital photography and advances
in printer technology, today’s amateur
photographer has complete control over the entire
creative process – from taking the photograph
to printing it on museum quality paper. These
advances have opened up unprecedented possibilities
both in photography and digital printing that
would not have been there otherwise.
It is a wonderful time to be a photographer.
