Ladakh, pearl of the Himalayas
Ladakh, region of high cols, makes the frontier between the tops
of the Western Himalayas and the vast Tibetan Plateau.
Enclosed between Pakistan and Chinese Tibet, this small realm of
the Himalayan peaks was kept apart from the outer world until
1974, and is described as one of the most isolated regions of India.
The capital, Leh, spreads like a fascinating maze of alleys
teeming with all kinds of activities.
The Indus Valley, important
ancient axis of the silk route is covered
with Gompas, huge and sumptuous
monasteries, looking down
upon the villages. They evoke our
medieval fortresses around which
life was fully organized.
This country gives you the opportunity
to :
- Travel through time and discover
an exceptional Buddhist patrimony
- Get in touch with a rather uncommon
society, heritage of a deep spirituality
linked with this region full
of millenary traditions and culture.
- Discover the pomp of the flamboyant
ceremonies, the rainbow
dresses of the female dancers who
keep turning round and round for
hours
- Live the daily life in the monasteries, the intimacy of praying
Lamas, the craftsman working on his loom, sculpting wood
or working with clay.
- Go through regions unfolding a chaos of generous nature
going from snow-covered tops to deep valleys.
