GLTT took part in a European Grundtvig
project of the Life Long Learning Programme.
The project was approved and awarded a grant
of a total amount of € 144.000.
8 different countries are involved: Ireland
(co-ordinator), Belgium (Flanders), Lithuania,
Norway, Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey and
Sweden. Together they will look at Creative
Approaches to Intercultural Competence (CAIC).
Staff and students from GLTT will have
the opportunity to travel to partner countries
to see good practice in intercultural education
and to take part in various cultural activities.
The partners will organise exchanges in order
to learn from each other.
GLTT will be the first host. From 11 until
16 November a delegation will come to Flanders.
Ann De Wilde, English teacher at GLTT,
took the initiative for the CAIC-project. She
is in charge of the organisation of the visit
to Belgium and, assisted by her colleagues,
she is putting together a nice programme. The
City Council of Beersel is an Associated Partner
of the project and actively runs its own European
programme. They will offer a warm welcome to
the international party. Afterwards, all the
aspects of the school will be introduced. Informal
meetings between students and teachers will
take place to get to know each other and exchange
views. Other institutions in the area will
be explored such as the library and the Asylum
Centre in Alsemberg.
Students will be closely involved in the project.
They will for example organise a guided tour
for the visitors in and around Brussels.
And because good food and drink is such an
important part of our culture we will certainly
try out some local restaurants and taste some
Belgian beer!
CAIC co-ordinator Sean Moran said: “It
has been a delight working with colleagues
from across Europe in developing this project,
so to receive substantial funding from the
EU to enable it to continue really is the icing
on the cake. With partners from all over Europe
the mix is a tasty one. It will be a piece
of cake working with such perceptive, committed
and hardworking people and the cherry on the
top will be the new ideas we can learn from
each other.”
